Niinistö, Macron for efforts to achieve ceasefire in Ukraine
President Sauli Niinistö on Monday met with his counterpart in France Emmanuel Macron at Élysée Palace in Paris and discussed the situation of the war in Ukraine and efforts to achieve a ceasefire.
The Presidents also discussed the EU’s response to Russia’s actions undermining European security, said the President´s Office in a press release.
“I also raised issues related to the current security policy debate in Finland,” said Niinistö after the discussions.
During his visit to Paris, the President also met, among others, Christian Cambon, Chairman of the Committee on Foreign Affairs, Defence and Armed Forces of the French Senate, and Jean-Louis Bourlanges, Chairman of the Committee on Foreign Affairs of the French National Assembly.
Earlier this month, Niinistö had a bilateral meeting with British Prime Minister Boris Johnson in London and his counterpart in United States Joseph R. Biden at White House in Washington and discussed the Russia´s attack on Ukraine and the European security situation.
Niinistö also held separate telephone conversations with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky and discussed the situation in Ukraine.
