Niinistö, Stoltenberg discuss Ukraine situation over phone

President Sauli Niinistö on Monday held a telephone conversation with the Secretary General of NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organisation), Jens Stoltenberg and discussed Russia’s attack on Ukraine, said the President Office in a press release.

They exchanged views on the prospects of a ceasefire, of a negotiated solution and of an end to the war.

They also talked about the development of the relationship between Finland and NATO.

Niinistö thanked Stoltenberg for the strengthened interaction between Finland and NATO during the past month.

“Once again, a valuable conversation with NATO SG @jensstoltenberg. We discussed the prospects of an end to Russia’s war against Ukraine. I thanked him for the strengthened interaction between Finland and NATO during the past month,” Niinistö wrote in a twitter post after the meeting.

Earlier on 26 February President Sauli Niinistö participated in the virtual NATO summit, which discuss Russia’s attack on Ukraine.

On 24 February, Niinistö also held a telephone conversation with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg.

On 7 January Niinistö held separate telephone conversations with Prime Minister of Norway Jonas Gahr Støre and NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg and discussed various issues, particularly the current security situation.
